Kids in Parks:
A fiscally sponsored organization of the San Francisco Parks Alliance (SFPA), Kids in
Parks constantly strives to fulfill our mission to deepen the ecological knowledge and
vocational skills of disadvantaged San Francisco students – 90% of whom represent
cultural minorities, and 60% represent low income levels.
Through a broad range of activities – from
learning about watersheds in our Incredible Journey lesson,
to hiking the bluffs of the Presidio during our weekend camping
trips, to restoring thousands of square feet of Green Hairstreak
butterfly and Pacific Tree frog habitat – students gain a new-found
appreciation for the natural spaces around them, learning valuable
career-building skills in the process.
Our year-long approach,
which starts in the classroom and is reinforced with hands-on
field experiences, makes the learning process both continuous
and visceral – helping students develop deep, long-lasting
connections to their communities.
